Africa Initiative Response to UMC Bishops

The Africa Initiative released the document below concerning the statement made by some of the UMC African Bishops last week condemning the WCA and the African Initiative.

Save the Date : "More Than Conquerors" WCA Global Gathering 2022

37 No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. 38 For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, 39 neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

(Romans 8:37-39 NIV)

The Wesleyan Covenant Association has chosen these verses as the foundation of our Global Gathering on Saturday, May 7th. Please clear that day in your calendar and plan to attend the Global Gathering at one of the many simulcast sites around Iowa. These sites will be announced the week of March 21st and the Iowa WCA board has gone to great lengths to have one within about an hour drive of every Iowan. This is wonderful news.

The time to rally your Sunday School classes, church members, administrative boards, friends from the church down the road, or churches in the next county to come is now. Cost will be $15 per person plus the cost of the lunch (as determined by the local church where you will attend.) PLEASE PLAN TO ATTEND, the momentum and moment to gather together is now.

You are encouraged to learn more below, but are encouraged to wait until after March 21st (because we are still working some technical and paperwork details out) to register.

Iowa WCA Response to General Conference Postponement

Just announced yesterday, March 3, the Commission on the General Conference has postponed General Conference to 2024. None of us were surprised that General Conference has for a third time been postponed and along with it our hopes of the Protocol being passed this fall. We are frustrated, second guessing the Commission of General Conference’s decision and motives. That is natural, we are humans, and conservatives have not always felt fairly treated in recent years. Go ahead – lament, let some steam appropriately off, be frustrated, and maybe take a second lap at it.

But here's what I wilI tell you; the cancellation of General Conference does not change our mission. Our goal under the Lordship of Jesus Christ is to grow Methodism into a stronger church that holds fast to the authority of Scripture as the basis for growing new disciples. That is our mission and our aim is to fulfill it! Next steps are already happening.

Much more to come, but for now, be reminded that this changes nothing in the mission we believe the Lord has deployed us to accomplish.
