Iowa Wesleyan Covenant Retreat

The snowstorm that dumped 14” on Central Iowa and significant amounts across the state not only sold lots of snowblowers – it also POSTPONED our Iowa WCA work retreat. However, because we are all Iowans, a snow date was preplanned with our host. So – you are invited to RE-REGISTER or register for the first time to attend our work retreat.

82 of you had planned to come and while we will miss a few of you because of the change of date (sorry) the hope is that others have heard the news and can come now. So, the following is a repeat of our original invitation with new times and dates for you to put on your calendar and REGISTER for the event.

Greetings, friends, and peace in the name of our blessed Lord Jesus Christ.

We claim 2022 as historic in the Methodist movement. This is the year we move forward and create a new expression of Methodism. We will exert ourselves in proclaiming Christ, growing disciples, reaching out in mission, and the many other ministries you and your congregations embrace to glorify His name.

Strategically, we must plan our next steps together. To accomplish this, clergy and laity members of the Iowa WCA are invited to attend a WORK RETREAT on the evening of Friday, February 25th and through the day on Saturday the 26th. The WORK Retreat will be held at the Altoona United Methodist Church.

The purpose of the retreat will be “for the Iowa WCA to have an agreed upon, actionable plan with timelines for 2022.”

Five main categories of work have been defined, and a number of sub categories within each. Leaders for each group have volunteered to guide the process and every attendee of the WORK Retreat will work on one of the small groups.

1. Theological issues we need to tackle in practical ways

2. Steps to joining the Global Methodist Church

3. Things your Church needs to do in 2022

4. What will the clergy pool look like for the Global Methodist Church

5. Legislation and complaints regarding the United Methodist Church

We desire everyone to attend – so – if you plan to attend, please click on this link to “reserve” your spot and assure you of lunch on Saturday.

Here is a list of hotels and general costs near the church.

Here to There: A Renewed Expression of Methodism

You are invited to one of the upcoming Iowa WCA, fall presentations entitled “Here to There: A Renewed Expression of Methodism” happening at various churches across the state this fall. There will be brief presentations, time for conversation, questions and answers, and each participant will be given a resource booklet that includes articles and resources for your reading and further discussion within your local church.

Please invite United Methodists in your and other congregations to come. Everyone will not agree with what we are advocating, but everyone needs to be informed – invite!
